My favorite late-summer or fall meal:

3 thick slices of butternut squash, baked for half an hour or so in a 375 oven on foil (or badly nuked in my ancient uneven microwave). One large ear of fresh corn, boiled in a pot of water for 5-7 minutes.

Throw a handful of asparagus spears in the corn water for 2 minutes or so, wash off some spinach and tear it into bite-size pieces. Put on a plate w/asparagus on top, add balsamic vinegar and a splash of lemon juice.

Toast two or three thick slices of sourdough bread. Cover pretty much everything with salted butter. (same amount of fat as margarine, less linked to cancer).

Sit on a porch with a napkin in your lap. Eat with your fingers (except for maybe the squash) and lick the butter off.

If you're worried about protein, then go out for ice cream afterward. Hah. to the kitchen back home or
