some facts about me that will undoubtedly enlighten you as to my inner nature.
  • Senior year of high school: I wrote a paper connecting the French Student's movement of 1968 with Peter Kropotkin's theories of mutual aid, Alfie Kohn's sociological and psychological observations on the ineffectiveness of competitive structures, and the Industrial Workers of the World.
  • Age 7: I got called "nigger" and "whitey" in the same summer at two different summer camps in two different cities. "Nigger" didn't hurt my feelings, but I got mad at and told on the kid who said it. "Whitey" hurt my feelings (Oh the guilt), but I didn't tell.
  • I've been in a hardcore/metal band, a punk band, and a crossover indierock/jungle/beat music band.
  • My mom and I took the bus together to DC for the big anti-Gulf War march. My last march on Washington.
  • I have never been drunk and never been high.
  • I proofread and helped edit my mother's latest book In Search of the True West: Culture, Economics, and Problems of Russian Development. It rocks.
  • I am an everyday Junglist.
  • If you ask me nicely, I will probably answer any question put to me.
  • I worked for the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers and it changed my life.
  • I've been yellow, almost-white, fire-red, and dark brown-haired. I've had a shaven head, different colored stubble, spikes, long and curly (natural), and dreads. I've watched whole segments of the population respond to me in completely different ways as a result.
  • I cry easily. Mostly from frustration. ALso when something beautiful moves me.
  • I took classical piano lessons for 12 years.
  • In general, when I lie, my ears turn red. (I love cyberspace)
  • I am a slavophile. Russian/Eastern European lit, constructivism, soviet poster art especially.
  • I love my leather pants.
